The skill versus insight arbitrage
Creative work relies on skills exchanges to become a marketable product. If one can make a great product or service, and there is a market for it, one can exchange it for money.
But skills can be learned, coded, programmed, and replaced by a better human or machine.
Insights, on the other hand, are difficult to obtain. It is from one's unique way of seeing the world. It is either developed as a result of one's skills and experience in the field or simply a result of one's natural ability.
Warren Buffett's investing and capital allocation skills can be coded, but not his insights. Steve Jobs's product design and marketing skills can be documented in books, but his insights cannot.
We appreciate one's skills, but what's his insight?
